Skin tags are harmless tiny out pouching growths on the skin, by a thick stalk that connects them to the underlying skin. These little benign “hangings” of skin are mainly caused by the skin friction. They are composed of normal skin tissue and can happen to anyone. Both youngsters and adults can have them, but people aged over 60 are more prone to get skin tags.
Genetics also play a part in it; people whose parents had these tags would also be more likely to receive these gift tags sometime in their lives. Give a thank you note to the universe if you’re an exception! But they’re not dangerous and painless. They mostly appear around the neck, over the eyelids, under the armpits or the grin folds. They look brownish or flesh colored mostly.
How Do You Get Rid of Them?
Here we’ll break it down for you… How to remove them safely and smoothly!
Inside The Dermatologists Room:
Yes, it’s always the safest idea to seek professional help. Your dermatologist would snip off these little skin tags in just a couple of minutes. He might use the following steps:
- First, comes the numbing with the help of a tiny needle or a topical numbing cream.
- Either the tag would be frozen with the help of liquid nitrogen.
- Or your doc might just use a cautery instrument to burn off the tags directly.
In this way, you would get rid of the tags in the right and friendly way (not the bloody way!) We know its tempting to pick up the raised flaps, but this would result in a lot of bloodiness and pain. DO NOT TRY IT!!
Tie them off with Strings:
Remember, to make the skin tags dead your goal should be to inhibit the blood supply and oxygen to them. It’s a quick method to get rid of the unsightly tags. Just by tying them off you can do it simply and easily. Just wash off the area and cleanse it thoroughly to avoid any dirt or infection building up. Now take a string and tie the tag up tightly with it right from the base. Make sure it’s tight enough to constrict the supply of blood to the tag. Repeat it for a few days, and you’ll watch the skin tag turning black and eventually falling off after just a couple of days.
Try Some At-Home Solutions:
Although these home solutions are not as quick as the professional treatments, they’re surely safe. Plus they’re more affordable too. You can get rid of the annoying bumps and flaps in just a matter of days with these at home remedies.
Tea Tree Oil:
Essential oils like tea tree oil, frankincense oil, and oregano oil are a proven remedy for years to remove skin tags. Tea tree oil is antimicrobial in nature which means it would keep your skin away from any sort of infection. Also, it’s super easy to use. All you have to do is to soak a cotton swab into it and apply it directly to the tags gently thrice a day. You can put a little band-aid on it so that it gets penetrated well, but it’s not necessary. After regular applications in a few days, the tags would change their color and get dried out. Eventually, they would die and fall off on their own. Although the tea tree oil doesn’t smell good, but it would suffocate and remove the skin tags right away!
Apple Cider Vinegar:
Using apple cider vinegar for the removal of skin is a remedy suggested by a lot of websites online that have a plethora of remedies to offer the solution to the problem. The acidic nature of the apple cider vinegar lets the cells shrink and fall off after the structure of the skin tag has been weakened.
First, thoroughly cleanse or sanitize the area that has skin tags. Now, just take a small cotton swab and dab it gently onto the skin tags and just leave it on your skin to dry. You may also rinse off after several minutes. Just repeat the method twice or thrice a day depending upon your comfort, and it would work for you. Acidity is responsible for shedding off the tags fast.
Baking soda is a powerful skin exfoliant which is meant to remove all the dead skin cells and tissues from the skin cells and doesn’t cause any damage to the rest of the skin. With its powerful astringent properties, it supports the skin underneath the skin tag to regain its elasticity and inhibits the blood supply to the skin tag due which it eventually dies and falls off. It also has high antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
- Combine one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of castor oil.
- Mix them well to form a paste.
- Apply the paste directly to the skin tags dabbing it in a gentle way.
- Cover the lesion with the help of a duct tape to set it in place.
- After 5-6 hours remove the tape and rinse off with fresh water.
- Repeat the process daily until the tags are gone.
Castrol oil has emulsification properties in it that help to dry out the skin tags and making them fall off. However, you can also combine baking soda with water or even baking soda with coconut oil.
Onion is an effective naturally powerful remedy to remove the skin tags. If you keep applying onion juice on the skin tags daily, they will go away simply in a week or two. Just put an application every night before going to bed and witness the results with your own eyes. After applying the juice, do not forget to cover it up a let it sit in place with a band aid to get it absorbed well into the skin tag.
Although nowhere near natural, using dental flossers to remove the skin tags has also been a widely used technique by many people out there. It’s a cheap solution and works really well. All you need to do is to tighten up the skin tag using a dental floss that should be tied up tightly into a knot at the base of the skin tag. Doing this to the skin tags for two to three weeks would remove the skin tags as the flow of blood to the skin tags would be constricted and the tags would fall off resultantly.
